Finland’s finest slide guitarist drops lead single from new album, ‘Waiting For the Daylight’
Finnish blues-rocker and slide guitar extraordinaire Erja Lyytinen has announced she will be releasing her ninth studio album, Waiting for the Daylight, this fall.
Arriving on October 7, the 9-track LP will be available via Tuohi Records.
The album’s hook-laden lead single, “Bad Seed,” showcases Lyytinen’s formidable chops and is accompanied by a music video featuring some impressive line dance choreography.
“I wanted to make a track that you could dance to,” said Lyytinen. “This track has a fat groove and instantly makes you want to move.
“In the solos, two guitars vary. A regular guitar and a slide guitar have a conversation. It’s one of my favorites on the album.”
Thanks to her mother, Lyytinen was raised on a solid diet of hard rock during her formative years, notably Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Uriah Heap.
With its diverse scope of heavy grooves, atmospheric textures and passionate delivery, Waiting for the Daylight is testament to these early influences.

Tracked during the first half of 2022 between busy touring schedules, a majority of the recording sessions took place at Hollywood House studios in Helsinki, Finland.
Featuring bassist Tatu Back, drummer Iiro Laitinen and keyboardist Harri Taittonen, Lyytinen's self-produced studio effort marks a new musical chapter as she fearlessly explores a variety of sounds on the periphery of the blues-rock genre.
Speaking of the album’s title track, Lyytinen said, “This song has a deep meaning to me, as I have lost a few friends to long term illnesses.
"In the song, I am describing how a lovely creature comes to you, taking you sweetly away from your earthly pains on your last day.
“There´s a huge guitar solo on this track which grows towards the end with a guitar harmony accompanying the lead guitar.
“I was trying to express the deep story through this grandioso solo and big backing vocals in the end.”
