‘GP’ Presents Warren Haynes & the Last Waltz on Friday, December 2 in Oakland, CA – Win Tickets!
‘Guitar Player’ welcomes a killer cast including special guest Taj Mahal to the fantastic Fox Theater

Guitar Player is proud to help Blackbird Presents bring a recreation of the Band’s historic farewell concert, the Last Waltz, to the Bay Area where the iconic original event took place on Thanksgiving Day, 1976.
Warren Haynes and Don Was lead a lineup including guitarists Anders Osborne, Dave Malone, Jamey Johnson, Kathleen Edwards, Bob Margolin, and very special guest Taj Mahal.
Singer/percussionist Cyril Neville, keyboardist John Medeski, and drummer Terence Higgins plus Mark Mullins & the Levee Horns (featuring the original horn arrangements of Allen Toussaint) round out an outstanding, New Orleans-seasoned krewe.
This ongoing celebration got rolling in the Crescent City during Jazz Fest 2016 commemorating the 40th anniversary of Last Waltz.
It was such a smash that the show became a series of annual tours, and this incarnation has been such a success that it was extended with West Coast dates added.
The Last Waltz will play the Fox Theater in Oakland on the first Friday and Saturday in December, and Guitar Player will be on site the first night, December 2 with a table full of free goodies including Martin acoustic strings.
Here’s a promo video for the December 4 show in Los Angeles that gives a good idea of what’s in store…

Rock-solid bass player and co-bandleader Don Was has worked with everyone from Bonnie Raitt to the Rolling Stones, and he always brings a top shelf band to Blackbird Presents events such as this.
Warren Haynes is a former member of the Allman Brothers Band, leader of Gov’t Mule and arguably the most accomplished roots rock player of his time.
To hear him sink his slide into classic tunes such as “Up on Cripple Creek,” “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down” and “The Weight” is going to be a special treat.
We’re looking forward to hearing him zig and zag with a pair of New Orleans style Stratocaster masters. The Radiators’ Dave Malone excels at slinky syncopation, and Anders Osborne always delivers a deep intensity to any affair.
Add very special guest Taj Mahal playing tunes such as “Further on up the Road” to the gumbo and it promises to be, well, “Such a Night.”
If you’re a player or player lover planning to be in the Bay Area over the first weekend in December, it’s time to call friends and get tickets.
